Nurdle is a funny word, but these tiny plastic pellets are causing tremendous harm to our oceans. Nurdle in the Rough was started by Kat Krabill who handcrafts beautiful jewelry out of recycled ocean plastic. Her mission is to start a conversation about plastic pollution, and get people involved in efforts to stop it. I took on the challenge of expanding and elevating her brand in hopes of reaching a larger audience and allowing her craft to shine.
I wanted to elevate the branding through clean and sophisticated packaging that still maintains the bright, fun quality of the jewelry design. Next, spreading the message and holding the values of the company, and allowing more people to see it. Showing the process behind the making of the jewelry was also important to let customers know the unique handcrafted quality of the piece they are buying.

Clear mono weight illustrations were broken down from pieces of the logo to bring clean simplicity to the design. In addition, tote bags were made for the orders to further instate Kat’s message of reducing plastic. To show her process I made a tiny booklet explaining the steps to be included with orders.
